Cybersecurity explained for your role

Four briefings. Each with a job to do.

These are different briefings built around different questions. We choose the stories, depth, language and next steps for the person listening. All four get the same care.

Executive

What needs a decision today?

Business exposure, the possible consequences, who should own the response, and what evidence to ask for. Enough technical context to make the decision make sense.

Security Practitioner

What should I check first?

Affected conditions, useful investigation evidence, remediation and verification. The detail you need to do the work, with clear limits on what is known.

Sales Engineer

What are my customers dealing with today?

What the technology does, which customers might be affected, useful discovery questions, and the evidence needed before making a protection claim. For SEs and customer-facing solutions architects.

Open Sales Engineer →

Consumer Security

Does this affect me?

A quick explanation for everyday life: phones, accounts, scams, money and privacy. Usually 30–60 seconds, with a recognizable warning and something useful to do. No technical background needed.

An explanation, not more homework

The headline is where we start.

An unfamiliar product gets an introduction. A vulnerability gets context. A recommendation gets a reason. We explain how an issue can cause harm, who it applies to, and what would change the advice.

“We patched it” is a useful start. Whether anyone got in before the patch is a different question. That distinction belongs in the explanation.

How we work

Follow the evidence.

We monitor source updates throughout the day. For the morning briefings, we research the questions that matter to each role and check consequential claims against the source material. Original advisories, research and agency guidance take priority.

Source watch items are leads. Published briefings go through a separate evidence and role review, carry an information cutoff, and link to their sources. We distinguish possible exposure from confirmed compromise and explain what remains unknown.

Made with automation. Accountable to the reader.

Ask us the awkward question.

Research, writing, source checks, narration and graphics use AI and automation. The narrator’s voice is synthetic. We judge the result by whether it gives you a clear, accurate and useful explanation.

Your Cyber Brief is published by Shaping Rooms. If we get something wrong, miss important context, or leave you wondering what a product actually does, tell us. That is a reason to improve the briefing.
